Greetings,

I'm Marvina Haynes and I'm running to be your city council member in Ward 4. First off, I'd like to say I'm exceptionally grateful for such a meaningful opportunity to serve our strong and beautiful community. I'd like to take a brief moment to share with you (my peers) some information about myself and my vision.

Professionally, I'm a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and a small business owner. I'm also self-motivated and deeply passionate about transformative change within our community. This has influenced me to attend multiple training seminars and courses on community organizing. I have also served in several leadership roles for a number of excellent organizations--having held positions such as founder, CEO, executive director, and activist.

Formatively, these relevant positions have enhanced my organizing skills, proper networking fundamentals, media insight abilities, and efficient strategizing comprehension. Over the years, I have done public speaking, tabling, canvassing, and led protests.

As your city council candidate, I will advocate for the following:

Rent Stabilization:

  • In November of 2021, Minneapolis voters voted in favor of the city of Minneapolis enacting comprehensive Rent Control in the city of Minneapolis However the current leadership in City Hall denied the will of the voters and has decided not to implement any rent control measures. When elected I will work to implement comprehensive rent stabilization in the city of Minneapolis

Public Safety:

  • Creating preventive measures to keep all community members in Minneapolis safe from harm. Establishing more before and after-school programs. Invest in culturally competent mental health services and co-responders for those in crisis. Greater assistance for families in Minneapolis Invest in Parks & Recreations and culturally competent programming, housing, workforce development

Public Works: City-wide infrastructure project to make our streets, sidewalks, and public spaces more accessible to all including those with disabilities. This program will create jobs including youth employment and internships

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. I strongly encourage you to reach out to me to make sure your voice is heard about the changes you want to see in your community, and please do not hesitate to ask me any additional questions you may have.

Best,
